Privacy Policy
Energy Datacom, operated from 258 Halifax St, Adelaide SA 5000, respects the privacy of everyone who visits this website. This policy explains, in plain terms, what personal information we collect through the site, why we collect it, and how it is handled in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles set out in that Act. Because this site is purely editorial and does not sell energy plans, solar hardware or any product, the amount of personal information we collect is intentionally limited.
What we collect
The main point at which we collect personal information is the contact form on our contact page. That form asks for a name, an email address, and a message, along with confirmation that you have read this policy. Submitting the form opens your own email client with a pre-filled message addressed to us; the information is not transmitted to a server we operate, and it only reaches us if you complete sending that email yourself. We also collect limited technical information automatically when you browse the site, such as general browser type, approximate location derived from IP address, and pages viewed, where analytics cookies are enabled through the cookie preferences link available on every page.
Why we collect it
We use contact form information solely to respond to your enquiry, correction request, or feedback. We use aggregated, non-identifying analytics information, where enabled, to understand which guides are read and whether content needs revising. We do not use any information collected through this site to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell, rent or trade personal information to any third party, including energy retailers or solar installers.
Cookies and similar technologies
This site uses a small set of cookies described in full on our separate cookie policy page. You can review and adjust your preferences at any time using the small cookie preferences link fixed to the bottom left of every page. Strictly necessary cookies cannot be disabled as they are required for the site to function; all other categories are optional and off by default until you actively enable them.
Disclosure to third parties
We do not disclose personal information collected through this site to third parties for their own marketing purposes. Where we use third-party infrastructure, such as font or icon delivery networks referenced in our page code, those providers may receive limited technical request data as a normal part of how the internet delivers those resources, but this is not personal information we actively share for commercial purposes.
Data security and retention
Given that our contact form routes through your own email client rather than a server-side database, most personal information you send us lives in standard email systems, secured according to standard email provider practices. We retain correspondence only as long as reasonably necessary to address your enquiry or maintain a record of corrections requested, after which it may be deleted.
Access and correction
Under Australian Privacy Principle 12 and 13, you may request access to personal information we hold about you and request correction of that information if it is inaccurate, out of date, or incomplete. Requests can be made using the contact details below.
Overseas disclosure
Some infrastructure providers we rely on for fonts, icons and mapping display may operate servers located outside Australia. Where this occurs, it relates to the general delivery of website resources rather than the direct disclosure of your personal information to those providers for their own use.
Complaints
If you believe we have handled personal information in a way that does not comply with the Australian Privacy Principles, you may contact us directly using the details below, or lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
